Don’t miss the magnificent Maori carvings that stand guard there. From here we’ll continue westwards, heading for New Zealand's wild and rugged West Coast. In the company of your experienced local guide you’ll go for a walk through a well-preserved area of Auckland's coastal rainforest as you learn all about the local flora and fauna. Stop to admire the giant tree ferns growing alongside picturesque streams in this regenerating rainforest. You’ll also get to visit a magnificently secluded West Coast beach where you can walk along the black sand and enjoy the bracing ocean breeze. Then after a picnic lunch you’ll venture into an area of old growth rainforest with mature 1000 year old Kauri trees. Your guides will explain how New Zealand’s isolation means that 70% of the native plants are found nowhere else in the world.
